Bannon's Two Goals Drive Clarkson to 3-0 Win

With two goals by assistant captain Genevieve Bannon, the third-ranked Clarkson University Women's Hockey team defeated Dartmouth 3-0 on Friday night.

Clarkson is now 21-4-4 overall this season and 15-1-1 in ECAC Hockey. Dartmouth is now 5-18-0 overall and 3-14-0 in conference.

"Tonight was a great effort all around," said Head Coach Matt Desrosiers. "I thought Dartmouth played hard by putting a lot of pressure on the puck and forcing us to have to make some plays, but also to keep things simple at times. Our first two goals were both created by some good puck movement followed by Bannon going to the net to bang home a rebound. Our third goal was a great individual effort by (Savannah) Harmon to keep the puck in, get into the middle of the ice, and then go top shelf with a nice shot. We are going to need to bring a similar effort tomorrow against a Harvard team that will be hungry for a win"

The first period was tightly contested, with Clarkson holding a slight 12-10 edge in shots. The difference was that Bannon was able to grab a goal 14:11 into the frame to give Clarkson a 1-0 lead. Co-captain Cayley Mercer and Loren Gabel had assists on the goal. Dartmouth could not score thanks to Shea Tiley's 10 saves.

In the second period, Clarkson clamped down on Dartmouth defensively and was able to extend its lead. Bannon made the score 2-0 7:51 into the second period, with Gabel and Mercer again setting her up. The Golden Knights grabbed a third goal at 13:18 with co-captain Savannah Harmon scoring. Rhyen McGill and Jessica Gillham grabbed assists. While Clarkson was able to take 18 shots in the middle frame, the Green and Gold held the Big Green to just two attempts, with Tiley stopping both of them.

Neither team was able to score in the third period, allowing Clarkson to stay atop the ECAC standings.

Clarkson finished with a 46-16 advantage in shots. The Golden Knights were 0-9 on the power-play while Dartmouth was 0-2. Tiley finished with 16 saves in her second shutout of the season and 20th of her career, tying her for second all-time at Clarkson. Her counterpart, Robyn Chemago made 43 stops.

Clarkson will next travel to Harvard for a 3:00 pm game on Saturday afternoon.
