CU Men's Basketball Preview - vs. SUNY Potsdam (11/28)

Though the two teams missed a potential matchup in the North Country Invitational, the Clarkson University Men's Basketball team and its crosstown rival SUNY Potsdam will face off against one another on Tuesday evening at Alumni Gymnasium.

The Series: Clarkson trails in the all-time series against Potsdam with just 23 wins in 75 all-time meetings, but the Knights have dominated recently with 10 wins in the last 11 contests.

Key Stats for Clarkson (1-2): The early returns for freshman Roburt Welch have been very impressive. The first-year collegian is averaging 10.3 points per game, but more impressively he's done so in just 15 minutes per contest, averaging 0.689 points per minute. In comparison, unanimous all-league player Derek Hart produced 0.632 points per minute in his record-breaking senior season in 2016-17. In contrast to Hart, Welch is doing his damage from beyond the arc, leading the team with nine 3-pointers. Overall, Clarkson is shooting 41.2% from the 3-point line.

Key Stats for SUNY Potsdam (3-0): The Bears have already matched last season's win total thanks to a strong offensive showing and a much improved defense. Potsdam is allowing 14 points per game less than it did last year while averaging more than 84 points per contest on offense. Nosa Onabor is shooting better than 50% from the field and beyond the arc, averaging close to a double-double on 19.7 points per game and 9.0 rebounds per contest. Danny Delsol-Lowry is also chipping in double figures at 13.3 ppg.
