CU Women's Soccer Playoff Preview - at RIT (10/31)

For the first time in program history, the Clarkson University Women's Soccer team will compete in the league playoffs, gaining the sixth seed in the tournament with a first-round opponent looming in RIT on Tuesday afternoon.

The Series: Clarkson was on the short end of deficits of 12-4 in shots and 10-0 in corner kicks, but the Golden Knights were ahead on the scoreboard in a 1-0 victory over RIT on the final day of September. It marked the seventh all-time win for the Knights in the series against the Tigers, though RIT still leads by a wide margin 23-7-2.

Key Stats for Clarkson (8-6-3, 4-4-1 Liberty League): Clarkson's top two scorers combined for the goal against the Tigers back in September, with Camryn Careccia finding Madison Kather in the 86th minute. Careccia leads the team with 17 points on eight goals and an assist. Elyse Green was out of action against the Tigers in her freshman year, but made a big impression in 2017, stopping eight shots in the 1-0 shutout.

Key Stats for RIT (11-3-3, 4-2-3 Liberty League): The Tigers beat St. Lawrence 2-1 on October 7, allowing them to win the tie-breaker against the Saints for the third seed. RIT's scoreless draw against Union on Saturday also assured Clarkson of reaching the playoffs. Riley Yankowich leads the team in goals with five and is closely followed by Mia White's four, but it is Emily Thiel who leads the Tigers in scoring with 13 points, as the junior leads the team and the league with nine assists. She has accounted for nearly half of RIT's goals in some way, scoring twice with nine helpers among 23 goals.
