CU Men's Soccer Preview - at SUNY Canton (9/20)

Stephen Klimek has one of Clarkson's five goals.
Just one game stands between the Clarkson University Men's Soccer team and the start of Liberty League play. The Golden Knights will close out conference play by traveling to Canton to play SUNY Canton in a 7:00 pm game on Tuesday afternoon.

Clarkson is 3-2-1 this season. Clarkson was scheduled to play at Buffalo State this past weekend, but the game was forced to be cancelled because of the weather. The last game Clarkson played was a tight 1-0 loss at nationally ranked Cortland State. Michael King had a season high 11 saves in the losing effort while Aidan Subra took a career high four shots. Subra scored his first goal in a 1-1 tie with St. John Fisher.  He is one of four Golden Knights who have scored so far this year. Kevin Calnan leads the team with two goals and an assist while Jon Jones and Stephen Klimek both have game-winning goals.

Clarkson's defense has been stingy all season and has already recorded three shutouts in six games. The Green and Gold are tied with Union for fewest goals allowed in the Liberty League. King has played every minute in goal for Clarkson and is first or tied for first in the Liberty League in four different categories. King has a goals against average of just .472, a save percentage of .917, and has made 33 saves, all three of which lead the conference. He is also tied for first in shutouts with three. King has been helped by defenders such as Josh Eidem, James Homan, and John Furcick who have started all six games while Zach Golden started the first five.

Canton is winless this season, scuffling to a 0-6-1 record to start the year. After a tie with Bard in their second game, the Kangaroos have dropped five straight games, with the most recent loss a 4-0 loss at Union. Edward Malinoski, Jr. has a team high three goals for Canton while Angelo Vecchio has the other Kangaroo score. Clarkson and Canton have met each of the past four seasons with Clarkson winning three out of four. In 2015, Clarkson took a 2-0 home win over the Kangaroos.
