CU Women's Lacrosse Preview - vs. St. Lawrence (4/30)

One of the final playoff spots in the Liberty League could be decided on Saturday afternoon when the Clarkson University Women's Lacrosse team hosts St. Lawrence University in both teams' regular-season finale.

The Golden Knights sat in either first or second place for most of the Liberty League season, but a loss to Skidmore College dropped Clarkson to 6-2 in league games (12-3 overall), and now the Green and Gold may need a win over St. Lawrence on Saturday to get into the conference tournament. St. Lawrence definitely needs to win Saturday's contest to get in as the Saints come in at 9-7 overall and 5-3 in league games.

Clarkson is just 1-39 all-time against the Saints, but that lone victory came last season when the Knights came from behind, scoring five straight goals in the last 10:15 to pick up a 13-12 victory. Clarkson will be celebrating its senior day on Saturday as well.

Senior Christine Wright leads the Liberty League with 83 points (5.53 ppg) on 42 goals and 41 assists. The three-time conference all-star also ranks first or second for the Knights in groundballs (23), caused turnovers (17) and draw controls (34). Junior Ashley Flick is fourth in the conference in goals per game (2.93) and has 56 points overall on 44 goals and 12 assists. Flick needs just one more point to join Clarkson's 100-point club, a feat only 12 previous players have reached in the program's history. Classmate Kate Dillon has also tallied 40 points and sophomore Taylor Collins has produced 31 points on 17 goals and 14 assists as well as 37 draws. On defense, freshman Samantha Gladd leads the Liberty League in goals against average (6.36).

You won't find any of St. Lawrence's players among the conference leaders in scoring, but the Saints possess a diverse offense with 10 players recording 12 points or more, but none above 30 on the season. Abigail Owens leads the team with 30 tallies on 24 goals and six assists while Chloe Knapp and Caroline Bailey are just one point behind with 29 apiece. Kiera Taussig leads the squad with 27 goals and is also among the conference leaders in groundballs per game (2.25 gpg, ninth) and caused turnovers (1.63 ctpg, third). Emma Garfield has also chipped in 32 groundballs and 24 caused turnovers and Nicole Adde has 22 caused turnovers. In the St. Lawrence crease, Olga Lucas has seen the majority of the time with a .403 save percentage and an 8.50 goals against average.
