Clarkson Falls to St. Lawrence in Men's Lacrosse

Seven different Golden Knights scored a goal against St. Lawrence on Wednesday night, but it was not enough for the Clarkson University Lacrosse team as the 5th-ranked Saints pulled away for a 16-8 Liberty League victory over the Green and Gold under the lights at Hantz Turf Field.

Clarkson played its North Country rival tough in the first half and trailed by just three goals after 30 minutes. The Saints (11-1, 3-1 Liberty League), however, took control in the second half outscoring the Knights 10-5 over the final 30 minutes.

Clarkson started out strong against St. Lawrence, jumping out to a 2-0 lead midway through the first quarter on goals by junior Ryan DaRin and sophomore Sam Groves. The Saints, however, scored the next three goals to hold a 3-2 advantage after the opening 15 minutes. After Groves tied the game 3-3 with his second goal of the night to start the second quarter, St. Lawrence closed out the half with three goals to take a 6-3 lead into the break.

The Saints made it 7-3 early in the third quarter, but the Green and Gold came back with goals by junior Ryan St. Croix and senior Ben Paprocki to pull within two with 8:11 remaining in the quarter. St. Lawrence then went on another four-goal run to gain an 11-5 advantage early in the fourth frame.

Junior Scott Dosser and senior J.R. Campbell answered back with back-to-back goals to give the Knights life, trailing 11-7 with 12 minutes to play. St. Lawrence, however, sealed the road win with another offensive burst, scoring five straight to take a 16-7 lead. Clarkson freshman Shane Kilday scored the game's final goal with 11 seconds left on the clock.

Groves (2-1) and DaRin paced Clarkson with three points each. Campbell tallied a goal and an assist and sophomore Mark Uhlig recorded two assists to round out the Knights' multiple-point scorers.

Jeremy Vautour led St. Lawrence with four goals while Conor Healey scored three times.

St. Lawrence outshot the Knights 44-28 and controlled groundballs 35-25.

Junior Nick Strandholm made 14 saves for Clarkson. Ryan Fisher posted five saves for the Saints along with scoring one goal.

Clarkson, which stands at 2-9 overall and 0-4 in the Liberty League, will look to break out of a six-game losing skid when it hosts conference foe Bard College on Saturday in a 12 noon contest.
