CU Softball Preview - vs. SUNY Canton (4/13)

Take three? For the third time in two weeks the Clarkson University Softball team and SUNY Canton will look to get together on Wednesday, with the Golden Knights traveling down Route 11 for a pair of games against the Kangaroos.

The Golden Knights have played only two games since returning from Florida more than three weeks ago, having swept Potsdam State on April 2nd. SUNY Canton hasn't been much luckier, completing four games since its Florida trip, including two against the same Potsdam State team on Tuesday.

When the weather has cooperated for Clarkson the team has capitalized, winning 13 of its last 14 games and entering Wednesday with a record of 13-5 overall. After a slow start Clarkson's offense has started to grow more consistent and the team is approaching a collective .300 batting average. Sophomore outfielder Summer Lancette leads the way with a slash line of .375/.479/.550 to go along with nine steals, 13 runs and 12 RBI. Classmate Raeanna Dunn isn't far behind in her averages with a line of .364/.462/.491 as well as 14 steals and 17 runs. Junior Jamie Bridge is also hitting .367 with a team-high 22 hits and freshman Liz Caggiano boasts a .347 average. First-year infielder Sara Armstrong has picked up her pace as well and is among the team leaders with 10 steals. In the pitching circle, both Katie Pelton and Jamie Bridge have logged the majority of the innings and combined for a 10-1 record with three saves. The duo has struck out 69 with just 11 walks in 87.1 innings.

The Kangaroos have played only four games since March 10th, but at least they were able to play two games against Potsdam yesterday, though the latter was suspended due to darkness. Shannon Dowling leads the team with a .472 batting average and .722 slugging percentage, helping her contribute a team-high 15 runs batted in. Chloe Solomon has produced a slash line of .457/.513/.629 and Kaleigh Foran is clipping the ball at .452/.500/.548. Jordan Podkladek and Annie Sharlow have spent the majority of the time in the pitching circle for SUNY Canton, combining for 60.2 of the team's 69 innings pitched. The Roos' staff pitches to contact, with just 38 strikeouts in 69 innings.
