CU Women's Basketball Preview - at Middlebury (12/7)

For the third time in only six days, the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team will be facing a team from the NESCAC as the Golden Knights travel to take on Middlebury College Wednesday night in one of the final non-conference games of the season.

The Golden Knights (4-3) suffered losses to both Williams College and Tufts University, both NESCAC teams, this past weekend. Middlebury comes into the game with a record of 4-1 after dispatching Colby-Sawyer on Tuesday evening. Clarkson owns a 3-8 all-time record against Middlebury, but little of that matters since the two teams last played in 2005-06.

Clarkson has yet to get its offense going as the team is averaging less than 58 points per game, but there have been several bright spots in the early going for the Knights. Freshman Molly Stewart is shooting 48.9% from the floor for 8.3 points per game, while senior Stephanie Grobe is shooting 46.5% en route to 11.4 ppg. Devin Sorell leads the team in scoring thus far at 12.0 points per contest, and has yet to get going due to some nagging injuries. Madison Shea is also chipping in across the board with 8.7 points, 4.1 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.7 steals per game.

Middlebury has won four of its first five games largely on the back of an impressive rebounding differential, grabbing 13 more rebounds per game than its opponents. Though the Panthers are shooting less than 40 percent from the field, they create numerous second-chance opportunities with 15.2 offensive boards per game. Sophomore Catherine Harrison averages nearly a double-double with 10.4 points and 8.4 rebounds per game and also has 1.6 blocks per contest. Colleen Caveney is the team's leading scorer at 11.0 points per contest and shoots 46.8% from the floor as a guard. Junior Sarah Kaufman also is close to double digits with 8.8 points per game and she also finds her teammates for 3.0 assists per contest.
