CU Women's Soccer Preview - at SUNY Canton (10/18)

Heading into the final two weekends of conference games, the Clarkson University Women's Soccer team travels to SUNY Canton for the final nonconference matchup of the season on Tuesday night.

Clarkson is 4-9-1 overall this season and 0-5-1 in the Liberty League. The Golden Knights are coming off a 1-1 tie with Union on Saturday afternoon. After going down 1-0 in the first half, Courtney Black scored in the second half to help Clarkson earn its first conference point of the season.

Lauren Flynn remains the top scorer for Clarkson with 17 points while Black is second with eight points. The eight points are a career high for Black while the three goals tie her best single-season total. Flynn has 43 points and 19 goals in her career, putting her in sixth and tied for second on the Clarkson all-time lists. Her eight goals on the season are already the sixth highest single season total in program history while her 17 points are ninth. Summer Gillespie also finds herself on the career leaderboards as her 21 career points ties her for 20th all-time in Clarkson's history. She is also one assist away from moving into eighth all-time.

SUNY Canton comes in with a 3-11-1 overall record and is on a four game losing streak. However, all four of those losses came on the road where the Kangaroos are 0-9-0 compared to a modest 3-2-1 home mark. Kristina DiNardo and Sydney Kinder are tied for the team lead with ten points apiece. Both have four goals and two assists. Katie Lamica and Kara Primer are the two other Kangaroos with multiple goals with three and two respectively.

Clarkson has an all-time record of 10-5-2 against Canton and is riding a nine-game winning streak that dates back to 1986. More recently, Clarkson has defeated Canton each of the last six seasons. Flynn has had a lot of success against Canton, scoring every time she has faced the Kangaroos, including a brace in the 5-2 win in 2014. Black, Kanoe Eichholz, and Tori Sailor all also scored in that game. In a 5-0 win in 2015, Madison Kather had a goal and an assist while Sailor, Gillespie, and Abby Gruneisen had assists.

The two teams will kick off at 5:00 pm in Canton on Tuesday evening.
