Clarkson Women's Hockey Ties St. Lawrence 2-2

Two goals from sophomore Amanda Titus were not enough as the fifth-ranked Clarkson University Women's Hockey team skated to a 2-2 draw with rival St. Lawrence on Saturday afternoon in Cheel Arena.

Clarkson is now 21-3-4 overall and 9-3-4 in ECAC Hockey while St. Lawrence is 13-11-4 on the season and 7-6-3 in conference games.

"We're happy to gain a point tonight as any and all points are important this time of year," stated Clarkson Head Coach Matt Desrosiers. "I thought we had a few spurts tonightwhere we played well but overall as a team I didn't think we played as strong as we have been lately. We got away from the simple things that have made us successful as of late and it cost us a few times.  I was happy though with the way we came out strong and got a goal early but St Lawrence responded well and didn't allow us to build off that lead.  We were still able to generate a few good chances ourselves but just couldn't find the back of the net with many of them.  I give credit to St Lawrence as I thought they played hard tonight and made us work for everything we got."

Clarkson got on the scoresheet just 1:55 into the game. Freshman Rhyen McGill collected the puck behind the Saints' goal and passed to sophomore Lauren Lefler. Lefler sent a pass directly across the goalmouth to a waiting Titus who knocked it into the empty net. It was the 21st conference goal Clarkson has scored in the first period while allowing opponents to score just seven times.

St. Lawrence tied the game at the 4:17 mark in the second period. Jenna Marks was able to score on a scramble in front of the Clarkson goal with Alex Moore and Kai Heidersbach getting assists.

The Golden Knights regained their lead 7:27 into the third period. Freshman Josiane Pozzebon passed to Lefler near the half-way line. Lefler skated towards St. Lawrence's end and slipped a pass between two defenders to Titus whose shot found the back of the net. It is the second time this season that Titus has scored a pair of goals in a game.

As the clock wound towards zero, St. Lawrence earned a power-play. The Saints capitalized on the opportunity, tying the game with less than five minutes remaining. Kirsten Padalis sent a pass to Kayla Nielsen who was camped behind Clarkson's goal. Nielsen sent a pass in the direction of Lydia Grauer who was able to direct the puck into the goal.

Each team has chances to score the game winning goal in the overtime period, but neither could capitalize and so each team left with a solitary conference point.

Clarkson outshot the Saints 31-20. Clarkson failed to score on all three of its extra man opportunities while St. Lawrence was one for two. Sophomore goaltender Shea Tiley had 18 saves for Clarkson while Grace Harrison made 29 saves for St. Lawrence. Although the tie snaps Clarkson's six-game winning streak against St. Lawrence, the Green and Gold have still not lost to the Saints in seven meetings.

Clarkson will play host to Rensselaer and Union next weekend in Cheel Arena.
