Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse | | April 7, 2015

Women's Lacrosse Falls to Canton 13-11

Eleven combined points from junior Christine Wright (Watertown, NY) and sophomore Paige Fayette (Theresa, NY) could not prevent the Clarkson University Women's Lacrosse team from falling to SUNY Canton by a score of 13-11.

Clarkson falls to 7-3 on the season while Canton improves to 7-2. The loss prevents Clarkson from completing their first ever sweep of St. Lawrence country opponents.

Clarkson would get on the scoreboard first when Wright scored a free position goal at 28:02, but Canton would score the next three goals. The teams would trade goals for the rest of the half with sophomore Kate Dillon's (St. Albans, VT) second goal of the game drawing Clarkson within one goal heading into halftime.

Fayette scored her first goal at 27:37 in the second half to tie the game at six before Wright scored her third goal of the game at 26:55 to give the Golden Knights their first lead since the score was 1-0. After a Canton goal tied the game, sophomore Ashley Flick (Watertown, NY) scored to regain the lead. Another Canton goal at 18:53 was followed shortly by Wright's team-high fourth goal at 16:37 to give the Green and Gold a 9-8 lead. Unfortunately, it would be the last time they led as Canton stormed in front with five straight goals to take a 13-9 lead with just under six minutes to play. Fayette was able to score goals at 4:53 and 1:40 to cut the Kangaroo lead in half, but Clarkson was unable to get any closer as the game finished 13-11.

Wright finished with six points on four goals and two assists while Fayette had five points on three goals and two helpers. Junior goalkeeper Danielle Tani (Heuvelton, NY) made three saves for Clarkson. Dillon and freshman Lynette Smith (Penn Yan, NY) tied for the team lead with three ground balls apiece. Clarkson held a 31-17 advantage in shots as well as a 19-18 lead in ground balls.

Clarkson will play two Liberty League games this weekend. First, they will host Rennselaer for a 4:00 pm game on Friday, followed by hosting Skidmore for a 3:00 pm game on Saturday.
