Clarkson Defeated by William Smith 10-6

Four points from junior Christine Wright was not enough as the Clarkson University Women's Lacrosse team fell to visiting William Smith 10-6 on Friday afternoon at Hantz Turf Field.

Clarkson is now 7-6 overall and has a 2-4 Liberty League record while William Smith is 5-8 overall and has a 3-3 conference record.

The Herons would score the first goal of the game, but Clarkson would strike back with three of their own. First, sophomore Kate Dillon scored off a pass from her classmate Paige Fayette. Wright scored her first goal of the game on a free position shot at 19:54, then at 19:13; Wright's pass found Fayette who scored the third Golden Knight goal. That would be the last time Clarkson scored in the first half and William Smith took advantage, scoring four straight goals to take a 5-3 lead into halftime.

William Smith extended their lead two minutes into the second half, making the score 6-3. Wright answered with another free position goal at 13:25, but the Herons scored the next two goals to open an 8-4 lead. Clarkson fought back with freshman Taylor Collins scoring at 5:44 off a pass from Wright and Dillon scoring her second goal at 4:14 to draw Clarkson within two goals. They would not get any closer though, and William Smith added two insurance goals to finish off the victory.

Clarkson held a 29-27 advantage in shots while William Smith picked up 22 ground balls to Clarkson's 18. Freshman defender Lynette Smith picked up a team high four ground balls and junior goalkeeper Danielle Tani made ten saves in net.

Clarkson will host Union for a 2:00 pm game tomorrow.
