Wright Records Eight Points in Knights 14-9 Win Over Morrisville

Morrisville, NY - Junior Christine Wright had an impressive all-around day for the Clarkson University Women's Lacrosse team on Saturday, recording five goals, three assists, five draw controls, and six groundball as the Golden Knights earned their first win of 2015 with a 14-9 victory over Morrisville State.

The Golden Knights saw their record evened at 1-1 on the season, and the team will face Oswego State on Tuesday. The Mustangs opened 2015 with a loss, falling to 0-1.

The first half was a back-and-forth affair as neither team was able to get much of a lead. Clarkson scored first on a goal from Paige Fayette, but Morrisville responded by scoring three of the next four goals, taking a lead midway through the half on Hunter Waldau's second goal of the game. Wright evened the score at 14:24, and the though the Knights would see the game tied on several more occasions they would never trail again. Sophomore Kate Dillon scored on a pass from Wright with 48 seconds to go in the first period, giving the Knights a 6-5 lead, an advantage they would never relinquish.

Clarkson's defnese and offense played well together to start the second half, as the Knights scored three times in the first eight minutes, including a pair of goals from freshman Taylor Collins. Morrisville would climb back to within two goals with 10 minutes remaining, but Clarkson rattled off four straight goals, including two from Wright, one from Stephanie Lynch and another from Fayette with five-plus minutes to go. That proved to be more than enough as the Knights and Mustangs played even the rest of the way.

Wright set a career-high with eight points and tied another with her five goals in the contest. Fayette added four points with three goals and an assist, and also had five groundballs and three caused turnovers. Taylor Collins produced three more scores and earned five draw controls. For Morrisville, Hunter Waldau had four goals and Shelby Wood scored three more times. Angela Marriott also scored a pair of goals for the Mustangs.

Clarkson held several other advantages on the scoresheet besides goals, recording more shots (32-15), shots on goal (28-11), groundballs (23-16) and draw controls (16-9). Dani Tani made a save in 56-plus minutes of action for Clarkson, and Courtney Quinn also tallied a save in her relief appearance. Cailin Dunphy made 14 saves for the Mustangs.
