Knights Offense and Pitching Come Together In Two Lopsided Wins

Clermont, FL - For the first time in a week, the Clarkson University Softball team put together two straight offensive displays and cut short its games against the opposition, finishing off Framingham State in six innings, 10-2, and shuting out Allegheny in five innings, 8-0, at Hancock Field.

The Golden Knights moved to 8-2 overall on their Florida trip and have just two games remaining before returning to Potsdam to continue their non-league slate before opening Liberty League play.

Framingham scored a run in the first, but Clarkson scored the next eight runs over four innings. The Knights tied the game 1-1 when Chelsea Elliott hit a sacrifice fly to left-center. Clarkson shortly thereafter when Summer Lancette was able to trot home on a strikeout and passed ball. In the bottom of the third, Ali Schwenzfeier scored Jamie Bridge on a single and Elliott also came around on a misplay in the outfield. Erika Jensen plated Schwenzfeier with a single and the freshman third baseman came around on a fielder's choice to give Clarkson a 6-1 edge. In the bottom half of the fourth, Lancette reached on an error and scored on a Jamie Bridge double to right-center. Bridge then came home on a single from Elliott. Framingham State chipped off a run from the margin in the top of the sixth, but Clarkson finished things offs in the bottom half of the inning. Elliott doubled to lead off the frame and Schwenzfeier followed with a single. Jensen then blasted a two-run single to score both baserunners to make it 10-2.

Clarkson was 10-for-21 with runners on base and 6-for-14 with runners in scoring position in the opener as Elliott was 3-for-3 with a run and two driven in and Jensen was 3-for-4 with three RBI. Jamie Bridge and Ali Schwenzfeier each went 2-for-4 and scored twice apiece.

In game two, Jamie Bridge allowed just a pair of hits and no walks in four innings, striking out six and her effort was more than enough to defeat Allegheny, but the offense continued to produce runs. In the bottom of the second, Katie Pelton singled down the left field line for the Knights first hit, scoring Alycia Short. In the third, Clarkson added five runs with a Bridge single through the left side opening the scoring in the frame. Jensen was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to force in another and then Schwenzfeier scored Katelyn Ferguson and Bridge on a single to center. An infield single by Raeanna Dunn scored Jensen for the sixth run of the game. The next inning Clarkson just about put the game out of reach as Elliott hit a one-out double to left-center and Ferguson singled to put the potential winning run on base. Schwenzfeier then sent home pinch-runner MacKenzie Pelton and Ferguson for the seventh and eighth runs. Katie Pelton finished off the fifth inning in relief to end the game. Schwenzfeier finished 2-for-3 and drove in four for the Knights.
