Clarkson Rallies to Defeat Potsdam 13-12 in Double OT

For the third straight game, the Clarkson University Women's Lacrosse team used a second half surge to come from behind and win. This time, Clarkson recovered from two separate three goal deficits to defeat Potsdam 13-12 in double overtime.

The Golden Knights are now 3-1 and have won three straight games while Potsdam falls to 1-3 this season.

The first half was a back and forth affair with four lead changes in the first 30 minutes. Potsdam would take a 7-5 lead with two minutes left in the half, but sophomore Kate Dillon (St. Albans, VT) scored at 0:57 to cut the Potsdam lead In half heading into the break.

Sophomore Paige Fayette (Theresa, NY) scored a man-up goal at 23:06 to draw Clarkson level at 7, but Potsdam would score the next three goals to open their largest lead of the game at 10-7. Dillon scored her second goal of the game at 16:09 to make the score 10-8, but the Bears answered with a man-up goal at 13:04 to regain their three goal advantage.

The score would remain 11-8 until junior Christine Wright (Watertown, NY) scored two goals in quick succession, the first a man-up goal at 2:12 and the second at 1:38, to draw the Green and Gold within one.  Clarkson pushed for the tying goal and after a Potsdam turnover with just eleven seconds left, Fayette was able to score her third goal of the game with just two ticks left on the clock and send the game into overtime.

Potsdam would strike first in the extra period, scoring just over a minute into the six minute overtime. Clarkson would tie the score at 3:13 when junior Stephanie Lynch (Baldwinsville, NY) scored a free position goal. With neither team scoring again in overtime, the game would head into a golden-goal double overtime period. Nearly three minutes into double overtime, Lynch would strike again, scoring her second goal of the game and giving Clarkson their first lead since 11:39 in the first half.

Fayette led Clarkson with three goals, while Wright, Dillon, Lynch, and sophomore Ashley Flick (Watertown, NY) all had two apiece. Flick collected five ground balls while Fayette and junior Emma Jeffery (Baldwinsville, NY) were just behind her with four. Clarkson junior goalkeeper Dani Tani (Heuvelton, NY) made three saves in nearly 69 minutes of action.

Clarkson will travel to Bradenton, Florida where they will matchup with Stevenson University and Concordia University next Tuesday and Wednesday respectively.
