CU Men's Basketball Preview - vs. Oswego State (11/24)

Fresh off its first victory of the season on Saturday, the Clarkson University Men's Basketball team will try to put together a winning streak when it faces Oswego State on Tuesday evening.

For the second time this semester the Golden Knights will be playing at their home away from home, Maxcy Hall on the campus of SUNY Potsdam, as venerable Alumni Gymnasium is awaiting a new basket for installation. Clarkson will also be playing its "home" game against SUNY Potsdam on December 1st at Maxcy Hall.

Clarkson's early-season struggles have come down to a shooting slump, as the team is taking care of the basketball with a +15 margin in turnovers so far. Clarkson has shot just 78-for-208 (37.5%) overall and 14-for-76 (18.4%) from beyond the 3-point arc, a rate that is nearly doubled by the opposition through four contests. Despite the perimeter shooting woes, junior forward Derek Hart has enjoyed a strong start on the interior with 14.3 poings per game while shooting 55.8% from the floor, which ranks fifth in the Liberty League. Senior Felix Abongo is averaging 12.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 2.25 steals per game with his normal all-around game, and he recently became the 20th member of Clarkson's 1000-point club when he notched a fourth-digit last Friday against SUNY Canton. Five other players are averaging more than five points per game, but less than seven, as the Knights try to figure out which player is the third scoring option.

Oswego State has enjoyed a solid start with three wins in as many games, including a pair of contests decided by fewer than six points. Junior guard Brian Sortino is off to a strong start, averaging 21.7 points per game and shooting 43.5% from the field overall, including an 8-for-18 start from beyond the 3-point arc. Walter Sampson also has three double-digit scoring games and is aveaging 14.0 points and 4.0 assists per contest while shooting 59.3% from the field. Alex Rawa and Kyle Covley are combining for 16 points and 11.7 rebounds per game in the Lakers' guard oriented offense. The foursome accounts for 64.5% of the team's minutes.
