Golden Knights Use Second Half Comeback to Earn 3-2 Win

A second half comeback helped the Clarkson University Men's Soccer team earn its first conference win of the year as the Golden Knights defeated Bard 3-2 on Friday afternoon.

Clarkson improves to 4-5-1 overall this season and 1-1-0 in the Liberty League while Bard is now 5-4-1 overall and 0-2-0 in conference.

After being held scoreless for the first time all season in their last game, the Green and Gold exploded for three goals this time out. The first came when the contest was only six minutes old. Clarkson earned a penalty kick and Zachary Godin stepped up and buried it for his fourth goal of the season, a new career high for the senior.

Bard turned the game around with two goals, one on either side of halftime. The first came with just 45 seconds left in the period. Austin Higgins found Nick Shenberger, who split two defenders and scored on a low shot. Shenberger tallied his second goal in the 48th minute. Brendan Byrne sent a cross into the Clarkson box and Shenberger was there to meet it, nestling his header inside the near post.

Clarkson fought back though. The Golden Knights tied the game in the 54th minute. Paul Ancin chipped a pass to the right side of the box and Maximilian Leetz hammered it home at the near post.

The game-winning goal came in the 67th minute. Drew Lewis slipped a through ball past the Bard defense and Kevin Calnan ran onto it and slotted a low shot home.

Clarkson held a 16-9 edge in shots while Bard led in corner kicks, 9-5. Michael King made one save in goal for Clarkson and Daniel Gagne had two saves for the Raptors.

Clarkson's next game will be when it travels to Vassar for a 2:00 pm game on Saturday.
