In the first round of the Nutmeg Classic, junior captain Shannon MacAulay (Mt. Herbert, PEI) scored two goals, including the game-winner in overtime as the Clarkson University Women's Hockey team defeated the Connecticut Huskies 2-1 on Friday night.

"It was great to be able to pull that game out in overtime especially after playing a pretty solid game," stated Clarkson Head Coach Matt Desrosiers. "We were really happy with our effort tonight and the way the team focused on and executed a lot of the things we have been working on over the past couple weeks. We always talk about wanting to try and get better every weekend and I thought the team took some good steps forward tonight. We are going to need to make sure we bring another good effort tomorrow and continue to focus on those things that made us successful tonight."

After a scoreless first period, UConn opened the scoring when Kayla Campero scored at 12:16 in the second period.

MacAuley would score her first goal of the game at 13:03 in the third period with junior assistant captain Erin Ambrose (Keswick,ONT) being credited with an assist. Neither team would be able to break the deadlock in the rest of the final period and the game would head into overtime.

At 2:56, MacAulay would strike again. She scored off a feed from sophomore Genevieve Bannon (Candiac, QUE), her team-leading 14th goal of the season, which sets a new career high in goals in a season for MacAulay. Junior Cayley Mercer (Exeter, ONT) also assisted.

The Green and Gold held a staggering 53-12 advantage in shots. The Huskies goaltender Elaine Chuli stopped 51 total shots while Clarkson freshman goaltender Shea Tiley (Owen Sound, ONT) stopped 11. Clarkson went 0-for-4 on man-advantage opportunities while UConn was 0-for-3.

The Golden Knights will face conference rival Quinnipiac at 7:00 pm on Saturday in the championship game. The Bobcats advanced with a 5-2 win over Yale.
