Potsdam, NY - Freshman Megan Strijek (Schenectady, NY) stepped into a cross midway through the second half to break a scoreless tie and helped lead the Clarkson University Women's Soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Plattsburgh State Wednesday night at Hantz Turf Field

The Golden Knights improved to 4-0 on the season, and the team will travel to face Elmira College and St. John Fisher this weekend. Plattsburgh lost its second straight game to fall to 4-2 overall. The victory for Clarkson was its first over the Cardinals since 1992, a stretch of 19 games.

After a scoreless first half in which Plattsburgh put some consistent pressure on the Clarkson defense, the game evened out with each team have solid chances on the opponents' frame. It wasn't until late in the second half that the Knights were able to get on the scoreboard. With just over 18 minutes remaining, freshman Anna Demasi (Colchester, VT) sent a cross in front where Strijek stepped up to greet the ball with her right foot and pounded a shot into the top middle of the net from about five yards out.

Plattsburgh had a few shots in the final 20 minutes but no serious threats on the Clarkson goal, as the Golden Knights recorded their fourth consecutive shutout.

Clarkson keeper Kim Kenline (Akron, NY) made four saves for the Knights, while Danielle Schmitt made five saves for the Cardinals. The two teams each had 10 shots, while Plattsburgh had a slim edge in corner kick chances at 5-4.
