Sophomore Alyssa Cristaldi (North Syracuse, NY) scored a team-high five goals for the Clarkson University Women’s Lacrosse team, but it was not enough as the Golden Knights fell at archrival St. Lawrence, losing to Saints 18-11 in Liberty League action at North Country Field in Canton, NY on Wednesday evening.
St. Lawrence (5-7, 3-2 Liberty League) held a slim 8-6 advantage after the first half, but pulled away over the final 30 minutes outscoring the Green and Gold 10-5 in the second period. Clarkson played the Saints fairly even in the opening half and tied the game 6-6 on a goal by Cristaldi with 7:35 to play before intermission.
The Saints tallied the next four goals to hold a 10-6 advantage early in the second half, but the Knights answered back with three straight scores to pull within 10-9 with 24:06 to play. St. Lawrence, however, outscored Clarkson 8-2 down the stretch.
Junior Saryn Campbell (West Bolton, VT) recorded two goals and two assists for the Knights while Sophomore Katie VanDeValk (Baldwinsville, NY) tallied three goals. Freshman Marissa Mastronardi (Cortland, NY) scored one goal to round out the Clarkson offense.
Kim Morse led St. Lawrence with seven points, including five goals.
The Saints outshot the Knights 42-23 and dominated groundballs 32-17. Junior Hannah Walters (Amherst, NH) posted 14 saves in the Clarkson goal. Campbell and VanDeValk each picked up a team-high three groundballs.
The Knights, at 1-8 overall and 0-5 in the conference, will host national powerhouse Hamilton College this Saturday in a 2:00 p.m. game at Hantz Turf Field.
