Looking to build upon a key road victory this past Saturday, the Clarkson University Women’s Hockey team returns to Cheel Arena this weekend hosting the early season frontrunners in ECAC Hockey. Led by senior captain Katelyn Ptolemy (Dinsmore, SASK) and senior assistant captain Danielle Boudreau (Whitby, ONT), Clarkson owns a 5-3-4 overall record and is in a five-way tie for fifth place in the conference standings with a 1-2-1 ECAC Hockey mark.

Clarkson snapped out of three-game winless stretch with a solid effort at Rensselaer on Saturday. The Knights outshot the Engineers by a 2-to-1 margin, 28-14, en route to a 2-1 victory at Houston Field House in Troy. Sophomore defenseman Vanessa Plante (Riviere-du-Loup, QUE) came through with the winning score on her first collegiate goal late in the third period to give the Green and Gold a 2-0 lead. Junior Danielle Skirrow (Trenton, ONT) put Clarkson on top early in the second period with her fifth goal of the year. Sophomore Erica Howe (Ottawa, ONT) was called up to make just 13 saves in win.

Despite a 34-to-19 shot advantage at Union last Friday, the Knights suffered their first ever loss to the Dutchwomen, falling 2-1 at Messa Rink in Schenectady. Sophomore Carly Mercer (Exeter, ONT) tallied Clarkson’s lone goal with 23 seconds remaining in the contest.

Named ECAC Hockey Player of the Month for October, sophomore Jamie Lee Rattray (Kanata, ONT) leads the Clarkson offense with 16 points, including a team-high 11 assists. Mercer posts 12 points, including a team-high six goals, including five on the power play. Skirrow follows with nine points (5-4).

Howe, who was honored as ECAC Hockey Goaltender of the Month in October, has played every second in the Clarkson goal and posts a .911 save percentage and a 2.11 goals against average.

The Knights’ power play (22.4%, 11-49) and penalty kill (88%, 44-50) are both ranked 10th in the nation.

Quinnipiac, guided by former Clarkson head coach Rick Seeley, posts a 4-5-1 overall record, is unbeaten in league play with a 3-0-1 conference mark and brings a four-game unbeaten streak (3-0-1) into Cheel. The Bobcats skated to a 2-2 tie with Brown at the TD Bank North Center on Saturday after shutting out Yale 3-0 on Friday.

Princeton, which plays at St. Lawrence on Friday, also brings a four-game unbeaten streak and a 3-0-1 ECAC Hockey mark into the North Country. The Tigers posted a pair of wins in New Jersey this past weekend, shutting out Brown 1-0 and overwhelming Yale 7-1.
