Clarkson Finishes Strong for Overtime Victory at Potsdam State

Sarah Andres started the Knights' rally against Potsdam with Clarkson's first goal late in regulation

Despite holding a significant advantage in shots, the Clarkson University Women’s Soccer team needed some late-game heroics to pull out a victory over cross-town rival Potsdam State on Tuesday night. Freshman Taylor Abraham (Canandaigua, NY) completed the rally for the Golden Knights as she scored the game-winning goal just three minutes into overtime to lift the Green and Gold to a 2-1 triumph on the Bears' home field.

With the win, Clarkson, under first-year head coach Sarah Raymond, improved its record to 7-2, achieving the program’s most victories in a season since 2006 when the Green and Gold closed out that year with seven wins.

Trailing Potsdam 1-0 late in regulation, Clarkson forced the extra session when junior Sarah Andres (Honeoye, NY) scored off a direct kick in the 86th minute for her third goal of the season to tie the game.

At 92:18, Abraham collected her own rebound and knocked in her third goal of the season, and second in the past three games as the Knights won their second straight.

Clarkson dominated on the shot chart, holding a 23-6 advantage. Both teams had one corner kick apiece. The Knights' freshman goaltender Brianna Thibeau (Salem, NY) made two saves.

Potsdam’s Ashley Thayer put the Bears in front 1-0 in the 57th minute.

Clarkson, with a 1-2 Liberty League record, returns to conference action this Saturday when it hosts league newcomer Rochester Institute of Technology in a 3:00 p.m. game at Clarkson’s Grass Field.
