Third-Ranked Knights Host Rensselaer and Union this Weekend

Clarkson 12-0-1 at Cheel Arena this Season

The Knights will look to improve upon their unbeaten record at home when they host RPI and Union this weekend

After suffering only its second loss in ECAC Hockey play this season, the Clarkson University Women’s Hockey team will look to jump back into its winning ways as it hosts Rensselaer and Union at Cheel Arena this weekend. The Golden Knights face off against the Engineers on Friday at 7:00 p.m. and battle the Dutchwomen on Saturday at 4:00 p.m.

Guided by second-year head coaches Shannon and Matt Desrosiers, Clarkson is ranked third in both the USCHO.com and USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine national polls with a 19-6-3 overall record. With six games remaining in the regular season, the Green and Gold, led by senior captain Britney Selina (Thornhill, ONT) and senior assistant captain Carlee Eusepi (Oakville, ONT) stand atop the ECAC Hockey standings with a 13-2-1 conference mark. The Knights are four points ahead of second-place Cornell and seven points in front of Harvard, Princeton and Rensselaer, who are tied for third. Clarkson is undefeated at home this season with a 12-0-1 record at Cheel.

On Tuesday, over in Canton, Clarkson fell to archrival St. Lawrence 4-2. Junior Melissa Waldie (Newmarket, ONT) and sophomore Juana Baribeau (Amos, QUE) provided the goals. Freshman Kelsey Neumann (China Grove, NC), making her first collegiate start in goal, posted 22 saves.

Senior Dominique Thibault (L’Orignal, ONT) leads the Clarkson’s offense with 32 points, including a team-high 16 goals. Four other Knights are recording double figures in the points column. Clarkson’s all-time leading scorer, Selina has tallied 29 points, including a team-high 20 assists. Selina has amassed 141 career points on 49 goals and 92 assists through 136 games. Baribeau also has 29 points (15-14) while Waldie has 24 points (13-11) and leads the team in power-play markers with seven. Eusepi powers the offense from the blueline with 13 points (4-9).

Junior Lauren Dahm (Baldwinsville, NY), who missed her first game this season, sitting out the St. Lawrence game with an illness, backbones one of the nation’s stingiest defensive units. She holds a .939 save percentage, a 1.47 goals against average and is tied for the national lead in shutouts (7).

Clarkson holds a slim one-game lead in its series against Rensselaer at 4-3-2. The Knights are winless in the last three meetings (0-2-1). The teams battled to a 1-1 tie in Troy on January 9. Clarkson is 13-0 against Union, including a 3-1 win on January 8.
