Providence, RI – In its first game against Brown University, the Clarkson University Women’s Hockey team dominated every aspect of the game except for one: the scoreboard. The Golden Knights did in fact win the game by a single goal, but a glance at the stat sheet would make it look otherwise. Saturday afternoon’s rematch between the two teams was a more even affair, but Clarkson added a couple of extra goals for good measure, winning 3-0 in ECAC Hockey action.
The third-ranked Golden Knights swept the conference weekend and improved to 17-5-3 overall and 11-1-1 in league contests, while Brown dropped to 2-14-4 and 0-11-3. Clarkson will play games at home for the first time this semester when the team hosts Colgate and Cornell next weekend.
It certainly appeared as if this game would be different from the outset as sophomore Juana Baribeau (Amos, QUE) took the seal off the scoreboard early on with a goal just 2 minutes, 40 seconds into the game. Senior captain Britney Selina (Oakville, ONT) earned her team-high 17th assist of the season on the score, and Tegan Schroeder (Lumsden, SASK) gained her third assist of the campaign.
Despite the goal, Brown held a 13-7 edge in shots in the first period, surpassing its total of shots (9) from the first time the two teams met. However, Clarkson would control that effort for the remainder of the game, out shooting the Bears 31-15 in the final 40 minutes.
That advantage in shots didn’t produce any goals until the third period when the Knights tallied two insurance scores. Junior Daris Tendler (Verwood, SASK) scored her fourth goal of the season, unassisted, at 5:47 in the third period, and senior Dominique Thibault (L’Orignal, ONT) scored her team-best 16th goal of the year late in the frame, with Baribeau adding her 12th assist of the season on the score at 16:15.
With 28 saves, junior Lauren Dahm (Baldwinsville, NY) posted her sixth shutout of the season, four of which have come in league play. Brown’s Katie Jamieson made 35 stops in the loss.
