Knights Held Scoreless for Second Straight Day in 2-0 Shutout Loss to Skidmore

Saratoga Springs, NY - Another slow start was too much for the Clarkson University Men's Soccer team to overcome as Skidmore College used a pair of second-half goals to shut down the Golden Knights 2-0 in Liberty League action on Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Knights fell to 5-4-1 overall and 0-2-0 in conference games while Skidmore evened its mark at 4-4 and 1-1. Clarkson will now take two weeks off before returning to Liberty League action in October when the team hosts Hamilton and Hobart.

Although the game was scoreless at the half, the Knights trailed in shots (7-1) and corner kicks (8-0). Neither team was able to put a shot on goal in the entire first half.

That would change as Skidmore College tallied twice early on in the second half. Greg Lloyd scored his first goal of the season on a pass from Taylor Alderson at 52:42. Just seven minutes later, the Thoroughbreds picked up an insurance goal when Doug Yeates tallied on a direct kick.

Though Skidmore scored twice in the half, it was Clarkson that held the edge in shots in the second frame, leading 8-6 while trailing 2-1 in corner kicks. Unfortunately for the Knights, none of those shots could get past the Thoroughbreds' defense.

Freshman Scott Stuart (Ottawa, ONT) made two saves for the Knights while Nick Peterson made three stops for Skidmore. The Thoroughbreds finished on top in both shots (13-9) and corner kicks (10-1).
