Clarkson Regains Winning Form with 16-12 victory over Skidmore

Senior Emily Bojarski (Syracuse, NY) scored fivegoals and classmate Alyssa Breed (Macedon, NY) tallied eight points, including a game-high six assists, to lead the Clarkson University Women’s Lacrosse team past Skidmore College 16-12 in Liberty League action played on Clarkson Field Friday afternoon.

 

The Golden Knights, who snapped out of a seven-game losing stretch, improved their record to 4-8 overall and to 1-5 in the Liberty League. Clarkson hosts Union College on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. in its final home game.

 

The Knights, who defeated Skidmore for the third straight year, held a 10-7 lead at the half and out scored the Thoroughbreds 6-5 over the final 30 minutes.  Clarkson built a 14-8 lead with just over 20 minutes to play, but Skidmore (6-6, 2-3) rallied back with three straight scores to trail by only three goals with 14 minutes remaining. The Knights, however, held off the Thoroughbreds over the final 10 minutes as Breed and Bojarski scored two of the last three goals. Bojarski’s fifth tally of the game came with 88 seconds left to close out the scoring.

 

Bojarski, who has 45 points this season (34-11), is just two points shy of tying Clarkson’s all-time scoring record of 163 points. She has 124 goals and 37 assists through 57 career games.

 

Sophomore Lindsay Stavola (Montauk, NY) led Skidmore with five points, including four goals. Freshman Lauren Madden (Huntington, NY) also scored four goals for the Thoroughbreds.

 

Junior Kimberly Loucks (Waterloo, NY) netted three goals for the Knights, while senior Heather Milne (South Burlington, VT) and sophomore Robin Baumgartner (Bethel, CT) each tallied twice. Freshmen Nikki Corso (Derry, NH) and Saryn Campbell (West Bolton, VT) rounded out Clarkson’s goal scores with one apiece.

 

Skidmore held a slight edge in shots, 34-31, and controlled ground balls 27-21. Freshman Hannah Walters (Amherst, NH) came through with a 13-save effort for the Green and Gold, including eight stops in the second half. Walters also led Clarkson in ground balls with six.

 

Senior Courtney DeStefano (Rehoboth, MA) and freshman Rachel Klein (Far Hills, NJ) combined for nine saves in the Skidmore goal. Senior Laura Flynn (Wellesley, MA) paced the Thoroughbreds in ground balls with six.
