Potsdam, NY – With a pair of goals from junior Melissa Waldie (Newmarket, ONT) and 29 saves from classmate Lauren Dahm (Baldwinsville, NY), the fourth-ranked Clarkson University Women’s Hockey team completed a four-point weekend with a 3-0 victory over Princeton University Saturday afternoon in front of 240 fans at Cheel Arena.
The Golden Knights improved to 14-4-1 overall and 8-1-0 in ECAC Hockey, closing out the first semester in first place in the league. Princeton dropped to 7-6-1 overall and 5-4-1 in league play.
After a scoreless first period in which both teams mustered little offense outside of their power play chances, the Golden Knights were able to jump on the scoreboard midway through the second frame. Following a scrum in front of the net, Melissa Waldie redirected an attempted clear through the legs of Princeton goalkeeper Rachel Weber. The score was Waldie’s 10th of the season, which came unassisted at 10:52.

In the third period, the Knights picked up a pair of insurance goals and fans were able to enjoy a bit of Clarkson Women’s Hockey history. Less than two minutes into the period, senior Genevieve Lavoie (Delson, QUE) scored her third goal of the season in front of the net with assists going to senior Dominique Thibault (L’Original, QUE) and sophomore Juana Baribeau (Amos, QUE). Just a few minutes later, history was made as the seven-year-old Clarkson University Women’s Hockey team had its first-ever penalty shot. Though the attempt by Brittany Mulligan (London, ONT) sailed wide, it was Clarkson’s first penalty shot at Cheel Arena or on the road. It didn’t matter much in the end, however, as the Knights picked up a power play goal midway through the frame. Waldie picked up her second goal of the season, and her 11th of the season, when she redirected a slap shot from Carlee Eusepi (Oakville, ONT). Britney Selina (Thornhill, ONT) also assisted.
