Final Five Minutes Sinks Knights at Oswego

Oswego, NY - Right when the Clarkson University Men's Basketball team could have used a spurt to push them to a win, the offense deserted the Golden Knights as an 11-1 run over the final five minutes ended any chance of the Green and Gold coming away with a victory at Oswego State as the Lakers finished off a 60-46 decision Tuesday evening.

The Golden Knights dropped to 3-2 overall with their second straight loss to a SUNYAC school, while Oswego moved to 3-1. Clarkson closes the first semester at Alumni Gymnasium against SUNY Morrisville.

After a tumultuous first half that saw the two teams go back and forth, the Lakers gave up the lead just once in the final 20 minutes and took a double-digit advantage midway through the period. After a lay up by Elson Pickering (Brooklyn, NY) at 5:21 brought Clarkson to within four points (49-45), the Golden Knights couldn't find the bottom of the basket, missing all eight field goal attempts and two of three free throw attempts in the last five minutes of the contest. Oswego scored 11 points to Clarkson's single tally over the span, finishing with a double-digit victory.

Pickering was Clarkson's lone scorer in double figures, finishing with 10 points. The Knights struggled mightily around the basket, making just 14 field goals in the contest with six assists. That statistic is particuarly telling as the Knights had 70 assists on 107 field goals through the first four games.
