Canton, NY - An overwhelming deficit in free throw attempts and a lackluster shooting night did in the Clarkson University Men's Basketball team as the Golden Knights suffered a 93-62 setback to St. Lawrence Tuesday night at Burkman Gymnasium.
The Golden Knights lost their second game in three Liberty League contests and moved to 10-4 overall. The Saints improved to 10-3 and remained unbeaten in conference games at 3-0. Clarkson looks to get back on the winning side of things this weekend when it closes out a five-game road trip against Vassar and Rensselaer.
From the very beginning, the Saints were in control, pushing the tempo and making open shots from the perimeter and finishing around the basket. The free throw differential got out of hand quickly as well as the Saints went 15-for-19 from the free throw line in the first half while Clarkson received just two free throw attempts. St. Lawrence shot 53.3% in the first half, going 16-for-30 from the floor, including five 3-point field goals, while Clarkson was just 11-for-34 and 3-for-14 from the 3-point arc.
The second half started off promising as Clarkson looked ready to jump back into the contest, but the Saints went on a 20-1 run to put the game away midway through the second half.
No one finished in double figures for Clarkson as George Koduah (Accra, Ghana) and Elson Pickering (Brooklyn, NY) each scored nine points for the Knights. Ryan Smith (Niagara Falls, NY) contributed seven points and six rebounds in 19 minutes.
For St. Lawrence, Garrett Sharlow and Terry Parham each came off the bench to score 15, while Josh Sharlow added 15 points and Tom Wopperer contributed 13.
