Despite a strong first-half effort and a nine-point outing from sophomore Kimberly Loucks (Waterloo, NY), the Clarkson University Women’s Lacrosse team came up short in its bid to knock off rival St. Lawrence as the Golden Knights fell 16-12 in Liberty League play at Clarkson Field on Tuesday afternoon.
Bidding for their second straight victory, the Knights held a 7-6 lead after the opening 30 minutes, but the Saints (9-4, 3-3) came out strong in the second half outscoring the Green and Gold 10-5 in the period to post the four-goal win. St. Lawrence scored on its first two shots of the second half, and took an 11-8 lead 10 minutes into the period. Clarkson rallied late in the contest, scoring the last three goals, but ran out of time in its comeback attempt.
Loucks led all scorers with six goals and three assists. Juniors Emily Bojarski (Syracuse, NY) (3-1) and Alyssa Breed (Macedon, NY) (1-3) chipped in four points apiece for the Knights. Senior Alicia Chace (Cortland, NY) and sophomore Brittnie Carroll (Dexter, NY) rounded out Clarkson’s goal scorers with one tally each.
Senior Alanna Waters (Darien, CT) paced the St. Lawrence offense with two goals and a game-high six assists. Junior Amanda Forbes (Glens Falls, NY) scored four goals for the Saints, while freshmen Kaitlyn Fahsel (Watertown, NY) and Kim Morse tallied three goals each.
The Saints out shot the Knights 33-27 and held a 23-16 advantage in ground balls. Senior Meagan Emlaw (Norfolk, NY) posted 11 saves in the Clarkson goal, including eight first-half stops. Freshman Anna Parrott (Concord, MA) made six saves for St. Lawrence.
Loucks also recorded a game-high five ground balls to go along with four draw controls. Senior Lindsay Walker (Syracuse, NY) led Clarkson with a game-high five draw controls.
With her four points, junior Emily Bojarski became just the 5th player ever at Clarkson to record 100 career points. She entered Tuesday's contest needing three points and reached the figure on the final goal of the first half.
Clarkson, at 2-8 overall and 1-5 in the Liberty League, will host conference foe Vassar on Friday at 4:00 p.m.
