Another stingy defensive effort, backed up in goal by 18 saves from senior Greg Lamb (Baldwinsville, NY), lifted the Clarkson University Lacrosse team to a 6-4 victory over RIT in Rochester on Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Knights, who have won two straight to improve their record to 2-1, are scheduled to play cross-town rival SUNY Potsdam on Monday on the Bear’s artificial turf field, beginning at 4:00 p.m.

RIT (3-4) scored the game’s first goal and held a 3-1 lead at the half, but Clarkson shut down the Tigers the rest of the way, allowing just one goal over the final 30 minutes to gain the win on the road.

Junior attackman Tom Ross (Adams, NY) paced the Green and Gold offensively with four points, including three goals. All of Ross’ goals came in the third quarter when the Knights took over the game by outscoring RIT 4-0.

Junior Erik Hilfinger (Ann Arbor, MI) scored two goals, while senior Jon Cathcart (Homer, NY) tallied a man-up goal to tie the score 3-3 midway through the third quarter. Junior Brian Hoey (Auburn, NY) recorded three assists. Classmate Greg Gibbons (Baldwinsville, NY) also registered an assist.

RIT held a slight edge in shots (36-31) and groundballs (35-34). Cathcart recorded a game-high seven groundballs in the win.
