Burlington, VT - Sophomore Genevieve Lavoie (Delson, QUE) scored a goal and assisted on two others as the Clarkson University Women's Hockey team won its third straight game, and first following a 35-day layoff, over Vermont, 5-1, on Saturday afternoon.
The Golden Knights, who are currently ranked 11th in the country, improved to 13-4-2, while Vermont fell to 4-12-1. The two teams will face off again at 2:00 pm on Sunday.
It took two periods for the Golden Knights to get back in their scoring groove, as the team held just a 2-1 lead after 40 minutes. Marie-Jo Gaudet (Sherbrooke, QUE) scored her 11th goal of the season to open up for Clarkson at 10:03 with the assist going to Lavoie. Britney Selina (Thornhill, ONT) made it 2-0 just two and a half minutes later, picking up her ninth goal of the season, with assists going to Daris Tendler (Verwood, SASK) and Melissa Waldie (Newmarket, ONT).
Vermont did all of the scoring in the second period with a power-play goal midway through the frame, and the third period belonged to the Knights as Clarkson scored three times. Ashleigh Moorehead (Clinton, NY) scored her first career goal at 5:20 of the third frame as Laura Hart (Wheaton, IL) and Katie Morrison (Ridgefield, CT) gained assists. Exactly six minutes later, Lavoie scored her seventh of the season with assists going to Gaudet and Amanda Dittmer (Chatham, ONT). In the final minute, Clarkson closed the scoring as Waldie tallied her team-high 12th goal of the season. Lavoie and Selina assisted on Waldie's power-play goal at 19:22.
Clarkson out shot Vermont 27-21, holding a 13-7 edge in the final period. Eve Grandmont-Berube (Drummondville, QUE) made 20 saves for the Knights and Kristen Olychuck stopped 22 shots for the Catamounts.
