Potsdam, NY – Missy Jackman scored eight of her team-high 14 points in the first few minutes of Saturday’s contest as Rensselaer swept its North Country travel weekend with a 61-52 Liberty League victory over the Clarkson University Women’s Basketball team.
The Golden Knights dropped to 3-13 overall and 1-4 in conference, while Rensselaer moved over .500 at 8-7 overall and 3-2 in the Liberty League. Clarkson travels to William Smith and Hamilton next weekend.
Lopsided runs dominated the first half, as Missy Jackman scored the first eight points for Rensselaer to help the Red Hawks run out to a 10-2 lead in the first few minutes. Clarkson’s own 8-0 run tied the game back up at 10-10, but Rensselaer responded by ending the half on an 18-6 jaunt to take a double-digit lead into the locker room.
Jackman finished with eight points and two assists for RPI, and Brittney O’Neal came off the bench to score seven points. Tory Lyons also added six points and four rebounds for the Red Hawks. Clarkson’s Alicia Chace (Cortland, NY) scored six points in a full 20 minutes for the Knights, and Casey Laush (Westford, VT) made a pair of 12-footers for four points.
The second half teetered back and forth, but the Red Hawks maintained at least a seven-point advantage, and saw their lead increase to as many as 14 points before finally settling at nine for the final margin.
Jackman finished with 14 points, 4 assists and 2 steals for the Red Hawks, while Tory Lyons contributed 12 points and 7 rebounds.
Clarkson’s Sierra Noles (Averill Park, NY) led all scorers with 15 points, adding in 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Alicia Chace also scored 13 points, shooting 5-for-6 from the field.
