Sophomore Ashleigh Moorehead (Clinton, NY) scored twice and freshman Eve Grandmont-Berube (Drummondville, QUE) posted 17 saves to lead the 10th-ranked Clarkson University Women’s Hockey team past Rensselaer 3-0 on Saturday afternoon in Troy, NY.
The Golden Knights, who blanked Union 6-0 on Friday, have won four straight to improve their record to 18-5-3 overall. With eight games remaining in the regular season, the Knights are in third place in ECAC Hockey, owning a 9-4-1 league slate. Clarkson plays a home-and-home series with North Country rival St. Lawrence this coming weekend.
After a scoreless first period at Houston Field House, Moorehead tallied the only goal the Knights would need at 6:51 of the middle frame off an assist from classmate Britney Selina (Thornhill, ONT).
Moorehead connected again with another unassisted score, her third goal of the season, at 4:49 of the third. With 37 seconds left to play, junior Marie-Jo Gaudet (Sherbrooke, QUE) scored her team-high 17th goal of the season with an empty-net tally. Selina and sophomore defenseman Carlee Eusepi (Oakville, ONT) assisted.
Clarkson out shot the Engineers 23-17. Grandmont-Berube posted 10 saves in the third period to complete her fifth shutout of the season while improving her record to 11-4-3.
The Knights went 0-of-1 on the power play, while RPI was o-of-3 with the man advantage.
