Sophomore Brian Hoey (Auburn, NY) scored two goals, but the Clarkson University Lacrosse team could generate little else offensively against nationally-ranked St. Lawrence as the Saints shut down the Golden Knights 10-3 in Liberty League action at Hantz Field on Wednesday afternoon.
Ranked sixth in the country, St. Lawrence held a 2-0 first-quarter lead and made it 3-0 early in the second stanza, before Clarkson sophomore Cory Schneider (Yorktown, NY) put the Green and Gold on the scoreboard with 8:41 left in the half. The Saints added one more before the break to gain a 4-1 advantage after the opening 30 minutes.
St. Lawrence out scored the Knights 3-1 in both the third and fourth quarters to improve its record to 11-1 overall and 5-0 in the Liberty League.
Peter Carroll led the Saints’ attack with two goals and two assists.
St. Lawrence out shot Clarkson 34-23. Sophomore Eric Wolery (Cincinnati, OH) kept Clarkson in the game with a 14-save effort. Justin Demuth posted eight saves for St. Lawrence.
Sophomore defenseman Andrew Kott (Auburn, NY) and freshman midfielder Cory Peterson picked up four ground balls each for the Knights as both teams recorded 29 ground balls overall.
Junior Corey O’Connor (Sandwich, MA) won nine of 15 faceoffs.
At 5-9 overall and 3-2 in the Liberty League, Clarkson closes out the regular season on Saturday when it hosts Rensselaer in a 1:00 p.m. conference contest.
