Potsdam, NY - After being stymied on offense on Friday, the Clarkson University Baseball team discovered some hitting prowess on day two against Skidmore College, battering the Thoroughbreds for 26 runs and 32 hits in a doubleheader sweep, 7-3 and 19-5, Saturday afternoon at Snell Field.

The Knights' wins pushed them to 4-13 overall and 4-4 in the Liberty League while Skidmore fell back below .500 at 13-14 overall, but 7-5 in the conference.

In the opener, Clarkson scored in each of the first four innings with Mike Bresett (Norfolk, NY), Ryan Glavin (Syracuse, NY) and TJ Brinkman (Troy, NY) each delivering run-scoring hits in the first three frames to make the score 3-0. A three-spot in the fourth pushed the lead to 6-0, which was more than enough for Clarkson starting pitcher Rick Bittner (Lancaster, NY). Bittner pitched to contact through the first five innings with easy groundballs and lazy pop flies, holding the Thoroughbreds hitless through five innings. In the sixth, he lost his no-hitter and shutout, but held on to gain his first win of the season. Steve Magovney (Watertown, NY) pitched a scoreless seventh inning, despite inheriting a runner on first with no outs, to earn a save.

In game two, Clarkson's offense continued to click as the team sent eight batters to the plate in the first inning and scored four times. The Knights picked up another run in the second inning, but Skidmore responded with two unearned runs in the bottom of the inning to make the score 5-2. However, leading 6-2 after six innings, the Knights unloaded on the Thoroughbreds pitchers in the seventh inning, scoring nine runs, to take an overwhelming 15-2 lead. The teams traded runs in the final two innings to find the final of 19-5.

Zach Richardson (Parishville, NY) went 3-for-4 with five RBIs in the second game and finished the doubleheader at 5-for-8 with six runs driven in and two runs scored. Bresett also hit well, going 4-for-7 with five RBIs and three runs. Twelve different players recorded at least one hit in the nightcap for Clarkson, helping David Potter (Crown Point, NY) ease his way through eight innings. The senior righthander allowed eight hits and one earned run in the game, striking out four.

Skidmore's Mike Salamone was one of three players for the Thoroughbreds to record multiple hits in the doubleheader, leading the charge with three hits in seven at bats.
