Troy, NY - The momentum from a solid win on the road over Vassar last night was quickly lost on Saturday when the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team struggled mightily in a 70-28 loss to Rensselaer at Robison Gym.
The Golden Knights dropped to 7-14 overall and 3-7 in the Liberty League. Rensselaer improved to 13-7 and 6-3. Clarkson closes out its home portion of the schedule next weekend when the team faces William Smith and Hamilton at Alumni Gymnasium.
Clarkson trailed throughout Saturday's contest and, once the second half begun, was unable to ever put a significant dent in Rensselaer's advantage. The 42-point loss was Clarkson's greatest since the 2000-01 season when the Knights opened the season with an 84-42 loss to New York University. Clarkson's 28 points also marked the first time that the Knights registered fewer than 30 points in a game since the 1982-83 season, when Clarkson finished below 30 on four occasions.
Senior Sarah Wesner (Sidney, NY) scored five points and grabbed five rebounds while junior Adrienne Juby (Cold Spring, NY) added five points and four rebounds. Clarkson shot 6-for-24 in the first half and fell to 6-for-30 in the second half, finishing 12-for-54 from the floor, including 0-for-11 from beyond the 3-point line.
Whitney Coleman led the Red Hawks with a double-double, scoring 13 points and grabbing 11 rebounds, to go along with 4 assists and 4 steals. Destany Eagles also added 8 points, 5 assists and 4 steals for Rensselaer.
