Troy, NY - Senior Ashley Shaidle (Hudson, OH) desposited the game-winner in the waning moments to lift the Clarkson University Women's Hockey team to a 3-2 come-from-behind ECACHL victory over Rensselaer Friday night.
The Golden Knights improved to 17-13-3 overall and 9-10-2 in conference, to clinch seventh-place in the conference standings, while Rensselaer will settle for the eighth spot, falling to 12-19-1 and 8-12-1 in league. Clarkson ends the regular season tomorrow against Union.
Rensselaer started the scoring at 3:16 and held on to its one-goal lead until the second period, when junior Amanda Dittmer (Wareham, ONT) scored her second goal of the season, a power-play marker, at 4:44 with Katie Morrison (Ridgefield, CT) and Marie-Jo Gaudet (Sherbrooke, QUE) each assisting. Rensselaer came back with a power-play goal of its own nine minutes later to retake a one-goal advantage.
The third period belonged to Clarkson as the Knights held an 11-2 advantage in shots. Ten minutes into the frame, freshman Genevieve Lavoie (St. Laurent, QUE) knotted the game up 2-2 with her team-high 21st goal of the season. Gaudet and Brooke Beazer (Kingston, ONT) each earned assists. The game-winner came in the final seconds as Shaidle picked up her 11th score of the season to assure the Knights a seventh-place finish in the ECACL standings.
Clarkson finished with a 29-17 advantage in shots, largely due to the overwhelming third period performance. Kira Hurley (Pickering, ONT) made 15 saves for Clarkson while Ashley Mayr made 26 for the Engineers.
