Sophomore Marie-Jo Gaudet (Sherbrooke, QUE) got the Clarkson University Women’s Hockey team off to the right start in Saturday’s game at Yale with the opening goal of the contest early in the second period, but from then on out the Bulldogs took control in handing the Golden Knights a 5-1 loss in New Haven, CT.
Clarkson, which has lost three straight, falls to 13-9-2 overall and to 5-6-1 in the ECAC Hockey League. The Knights host Capital District foes Union and Rensselaer at Cheel Arena this coming weekend.
After a scoreless first period against Yale, the Knights wasted little time in starting the middle frame as Gaudet tallied her seventh goal of the season, a power-play marker 50 seconds in. Freshman defenseman Carlee Eusepi (Oakville, ONT) set up the Knights’ first goal in 159:07 of action with her team-high 12th assist of the season. Senior goaltender Kira Hurley (Pickering, ONT) picked up her first career point with the initial assist.
Yale, however, answered back with five straight goals to snap a three-game losing streak to Clarkson. The Bulldogs started their scoring with a power-play goal by Kristin Savard at 6:38 to make it 1-1 through 40 minutes.
Four goals in the third period by the Bulldogs seal the win. Crysti Howard netted the game-winner at 3:41, followed by a shorthanded marker by Sheila Zingler at 4:40. Zingler add two more goals over the final 11 minutes to complete her hat trick.
Yale out shot Clarkson 33-21. Hurley making her second straight start after missing the previous 12 games recovering from a concussion, finished with 28 saves. The Knights went 1-of-6 on the power play, while the Bulldogs were 1-of-4 with the man advantage.
