Potsdam, NY - Dropping the first two games of a match against Potsdam State, the Clarkson University Volleyball team rallied back to push the match to five games but fell short in a 3-2 loss to the Bears Tuesday night at Maxcy Hall.
The Golden Knights dropped to 0-10 on the season while Potsdam improved to 6-2. Clarkson, which played its first match of the season with its starting setter on Tuesday, looks to get on the winning side this weekend at the RIT Tournament.
Clarkson dropped the first two games 30-23 and 30-24 before rallying in the next two, 31-29, 30-25. With a 8-5 lead in the fifth and deciding game, it appeared as if the Knights would jump into the winning column, but a comeback from Potsdam gave the Bears a 15-13 edge in the final game.
Sophomore Hilary Lockwood (Victor, NY) scored 19 kills and 4 aces to lead the Knights while classmate Ashley Delaney (Mayfield, NY) produced 13 kills and 6 blocks. Freshman Jenna Stock (Johnstown, NY), playing in her first collegiate match after a long bout with a leg injury, came through with 42 assists and 23 digs from her setter position. Junior Katie Benson (Ashton, MD) contributed 29 digs and senior Claire Horvath (South Bend, IN) added 12 kills and 15 digs.
