Bolstered by its best 30-minute stretch of the season, the Clarkson University Women’s Lacrosse team defeated cross-town rival Potsdam State 11-6 at Clarkson Field on Tuesday afternoon. Behind a stingy defensive effort and a productive offensive outing, the Golden Knights jumped out to a commanding 7-0 lead at the half en route to their ninth straight victory over the Bears.

Junior Lindsey Grigg (Watertown, NY) paced the Clarkson attack with four goals, while senior Lindsay Roberts (Averill Park, NY) and sophomore Alicia Chace (Cortland, NY) chipped in two goals and two assists each.

The Knights ran their lead to 9-0 early in the second half on Chace’s second goal of the game before Potsdam finally got on the scoreboard with 24:39 remaining on Kristen Jacobs’ score. Roberts sandwiched her two goals around the Bear’s second score by Kelsey Shoen to give Clarkson an 11-2 lead with just over 11 minutes left to play.

The Bears scored the final four goals of the contest to make the game appear close on the scoreboard.

Junior Emily Cohen (Bethlehem, NY), sophomore Rachel Kopels (Queensbury, NY) and freshman Emily Bojarski (Syracuse, NY) rounded out the Clarkson scoring with one goal apiece.

Alisha Schaad led Potsdam with two goals. Liz Clohessy and Erin Felicia also scored for the Bears.

Clarkson held a slight 23-22 shot advantage over Potsdam and also led in groundballs by one, 34-33. Junior Erin Duffy (Liverpool, NY) shut down the Bears in the first half with seven saves in the opening 30 minutes and finished with 12 for the game. She also picked up six ground balls along with sophomore defenseman Lindsay Walker (Syracuse, NY).

Lorraine Villa made two saves in the first for Potsdam, while Gabe Cloonan posted three stops in the second half for the Bears.

At 3-3 overall, Clarkson returns to Liberty League play this weekend when it plays at Union on Friday and Skidmore on Saturday.

Potsdam (2-4) hosts Wells on Friday.
