TIGERS TOP KNIGHTS 1-0 IN EXTRA TIME

February 4, 2006

Potsdam, NY - Scoreless through nearly 64 minutes, Annie Greenwood finally put an end to the drought as 8th-ranked Princeton defeated the 9th-ranked Clarkson University Women's Hockey team 1-0 in overtime in ECACHL action Saturday afternoon at Cheel Arena.

The Golden Knights saw a five-game win streak snapped as the team dropped to 19-8-1 overall and 10-4 in the ECACHL. The Tigers victory moved Princeton to 13-6-4 and 9-3-2. The two teams are now tied for third in the ECACHL with 20 points each. The Knights start a four-game road trip next weekend when they visit Cornell and Colgate.

The two teams played scoreless hockey through the first three periods with Princeton controlling most of the play. The Tigers produced 10 shots in the first, 12 in the second and 15 more in the third, but Clarkson goaltender Kira Hurley (Pickering, ONT) was up to task, stopping all 37 shots through regulation. Clarkson's chances were limited, but its 13 on-goal attempts were all denied by Princeton's Roxanne Gaudiel.

The overtime period was similar to regulation as Princeton out shot Clarkson 4-1, finally connecting on its 41st shot of the game at 3:49 in the extra stanza. Heather Jackson took a shot from the blue line, which Hurley could not handle cleanly as the rebound bounced out to Greenwood, who tallied her 18th goal of the season for the Princeton victory.

Hurley finished with 40 saves for Clarkson while Gaudiel came through with 14 saves in the shutout. Neither team committed much in the way of penalties as Princeton was whistled for two infractions and Clarkson was nabbed for three. Both teams were scoreless on the power play.
