KNIGHTS SLIP TO THIRD IN ECACHL with LOSS at COLGATE

February 11, 2006

Hamilton, NY - Junior goaltender Kira Hurley (Pickering, ONT) made 20 saves and allowed only two goals, but the two scores were enough to beat the Clarkson University Women's Hockey team 2-0 as Colgate edged the Golden Knights on Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Knights dropped to 20-9-1 overall and 11-5 in the ECACHL while Colgate picked up a much-needed win to improve to 10-11-7 and 7-6-3 in the conference. Clarkson fell to third place in the league, just two points behind co-leaders St. Lawrence and Princeton. Colgate is now in sixth place with 17 points. The two teams are currently in line to face one another in the opening round of the playoffs.

The Raiders quickly got on the scoreboard at 6:48 in the first period as Elin Brown picked up her seventh goal of the season with an assist going to Sam Hunt. Hunt held the puck in the zone after a scramble along the boards down in the far end and then slid the puck back to Brown who was just coming off of the right side boards. She took a shot from a sharp angle that just squeezed past Hurley.

Though the Golden Knights would have their chances to tie, it was the Raiders who increased their lead with a short-handed goal late in the second period. At 19:01, Allison Paiano redirected a shot between the legs of Hurley for her ninth goal of the season with Becky Irvine assisting.

Brook Wheeler made 22 saves for the shutout and Hurley made 20 saves with eight coming in the final period. Clarkson was 0-for-5 on the power play while Colgate went 0-for-3 with the man-advantage.
