Natural Hat Trick by Bailkowski Ends Knights Winless Streak

October 27, 2006

Hamden, CT - Senior Christine Bailkowski (Aurora, ONT) recorded a natural hat trick between the first and second periods as the Clarkson University Women's Hockey team broke out of an offensive slump and ended a four-game winless streak with a 6-3 ECACHL victory over Quinnipiac Friday night.

The Golden Knights evened their record at 3-3-1 overall and moved to 1-2-0 in the ECACHL while the Bobcats dropped to 1-5-0 and 0-2-0. Clarkson faces Princeton University at 4:00 pm on Saturday.

Less than five minutes into the first period, the Golden Knights found themselves trailing to Quinnipiac when Jennifer Maclean scored her second goal of the year at 4:23 with an assist going to Breana Burton. The Knights would take little time to respond during a 5-on-3 power-play that saw freshman Genevieve Lavoie (St. Laurent, QUE) score her first collegiate goal at 10:59 with assists going to Carlee Eusepi (Oakville, ONT) and Brooke Beazer (Kingston, ONT).

Bailkowski began her hat trick with 1:45 remaining in the first period on another power-play opportunity for the Golden Knights with help from Lavoie and senior captain Lindsay Williams (Mississauga, ONT). Bailkowski's run continued into the second period with a short-handed marker at 6:20 and then an even-strength goal at 13:06. Lavoie, Ashley Shaidle (Hudson, OH) and Courtney O'Connor (Chicago, IL) each contributed an assist in one of the final two goals for Bailkowski. Shaidle added a goal of her own on a 5-on-3 power play at 15:28 and the Knights rounded out their scoring with 21 seconds remaining in the second frame as Lauren Lubrano (Ridgefield, CT) scored her first goal of the season.

The Bobcats added two goals in the third period when the game was well out of hand.

The Knights out shot Quinnipiac 37-24, including a 32-12 margin through the first two periods before the team held back. Clarkson went 3-for-13 on the power play and held the Bobcats scoreless in nine man-advantage opportunities. Senior Kira Hurley (Pickering, ONT) made 11 saves in the first two frames before being relieved by classmate Jessica Finley (Arvada, CO), who stopped 10 shots in the final 20 minutes. Laura Brennan made 31 saves for Quinnipiac.
