THREES & NEAR FLAWLESS FOUL SHOOTING DOWNS KNIGHTS

January 24, 2006

Canton, NY - Senior forward Russ Vitallo (Dracut, MA) scored 19 points, shooting 9-for-11 from the free throw line and 5--for-9 from the field for the Clarkson University Men's Basketball team, but he was outdone by an impressive performance from St. Lawrence University as the Golden Knights fell 78-54 to their rivals on Tuesday night.

The Golden Knights dropped to 4-12 overall and 1-4 in conference play and finish up a long road trip this weekend when they visit Hamilton and Hobart. The Sinats moved to 7-8 overall, but 5-0 in the Liberty League.

The Saints missed only one free throw (15-for-16) and made nine 3-point field goals to keep themselves distanced from Clarkson. The Golden Knights were solid from the free throw line as well with a 11-for-15 showing, but the Green and Gold produced only came through with one make in 11 attempts from beyond the 3-point line.

Freshman Brian Salanger (Syracuse, NY) scored 10 points, grabbed 5 rebounds and dished out 3 assists in 30 minutes of action for Clarkson while junior EJ Harrison (Troy, NY) added eight points and three steals.

Four players finished in double figures for the Saints, led by Tyler Shaver's 17 points. Matt Blue shot 5-for-6 from the floor for 12 points in just 18 minutes for St. Lawrence. Bela Vonnak also scored 15 points, added 9 rebounds and made 5 steals for the Saints.
