SECOND HALF SLUMP LEADS TO KNIGHTS DEFEAT AT RPI

January 20, 2006

Troy, NY - After shooting a reasonable percentage in the first half, the Clarkson University Men's Basketball team struggled from the floor in the final 20 minutes, making just five baskets, as Rensselaer defeated the Golden Knights 69-49 in Liberty League play Friday night.

The Golden Knights fell to 4-10 overall and 1-2 in the conference while Rensselaer improved to 5-9 with a 3-1 mark in the Liberty League. Clarkson looks to even its conference slate against Vassar tomorrow afternoon.

Unlike most nights, the Clarkson bench did not contribute much offensively, scoring only 17 points for the Knights. Senior Russ Vitallo (Dracut, MA) scored a team-high 11 points and added five rebounds as one of the team's five starters, but the bench players mustered just a 4-for-15 performance for the game.

Tom Schneider scored a game-high 19 points, shooting 7-for-10 from the field, for Rensselaer. Michael Visker added 12 points, all on 3-point field goals, off the bench for the Red Hawks.
