KNIGHTS BATS QUIET IN 3-1 LOSS TO OSWEGO STATE

March 26, 2005

Oswego, NY – Seniors Dan Hojnacki (Attica, NY) and Andy Noonan (Central Square, NY) combined to allow only four hits and struck out nine in eight innings, but the Clarkson University Baseball team dropped a 3-1 decision to Oswego State Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Knights fell to 6-4 overall while Oswego State improved to 7-2. Clarkson faces Utica College and Hartwick College next weekend in a pair of doubleheaders.

Oswego produced three unearned runs in the top of the first inning and held the Knights offense to three hits and a single run.

Hojnacki started the game and went six innings, striking out five and allowing just three hits. He walked five and hit another batter, struggling with his control in the cold, windy weather. After the first inning, Hojnacki settled down and held the Lakers scoreless in his final five innings. Noonan came on in the seventh inning and pitched two scoreless frames, striking out four batters, including the side in the seventh inning.

Clarkson struck for its run in the fifth inning when Tom Lilienthal (Baldwinsville, NY), who had two of the Knights’ three hits, singled to lead off the inning. Clarkson loaded the bases with no one out, but a double play thwarted the threat as Lilienthal scored, but Oswego escaped without any more damage on the scoreboard.
