KNIGHTS FALL SHORT in ONE-GOAL LOSS at PRINCETON

November 18, 2005

The Clarkson University Women’s Hockey team’s bid to gain its fourth straight win over a nationally-ranked foe came up short on Friday night as the Golden Knights fell to eighth-rated Princeton University 2-1 at Hobey Baker Rink in New Jersey.

Clarkson, which entered the weekend ranked 9th in the nation, will look to get back on the winning track when it plays at ECAC Hockey League newcomer Quinnipiac on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. The Knights, who lost for the first time in nine games, saw their winning streak end at six games with the loss to the Tigers. Clarkson owns a 9-3-1 overall record and a 4-1 ECACHL mark.

After a scoreless first period, Princeton took the lead in the second with a power-play tally and then made it 2-0 64 seconds into the final frame. Junior captain Lindsay Williams (Mississauga, ONT) put the Green and Gold on the scoreboard with her second goal of the season, an unassisted shorthanded marker at 15:24. The Knights, however, could not come up with the equalizer.

Princeton out shot Clarkson 25-21. Junior Kira Hurley (Pickering, ONT) made 23 saves. The Knights were 0-of-3 on the power play while the Tigers were 1-of-3 with the man advantage.
