MCDONALD RECORDS 22 SAVES IN SHUTOUT OF CORNELL

January 29, 2005

Potsdam, NY - Sophomore goaltender Kira McDonald (Pickering, ONT) stopped 22 shots for her second shutout of the season and sixth of her career as the Clarkson University Women's Hockey team picked up an ECACHL win with a 2-0 victory over Cornell Saturday afternoon at Cheel Arena.

The Golden Knights improved to 9-10-6 overall and 4-7-1 in conference play, while the Big Red fell to 3-13-3 and 3-11-1. Clarkson visits Princeton and Yale next weekend.

Freshman Brooke Beazer (Kingston, ONT) took little time getting Clarkson on the scoreboard, scoring an unassisted goal, her seventh of the season, at the 4:46 mark of the first period. The Golden Knights dominated the opening 20 minutes, out shooting Cornell 16-6.

In the second period, sophomore Melissa Marshall (Oak Lawn, IL) picked up her second goal of the season at the 2:42 mark of the middle stanza. Freshman Katie Morrison (Ridgefield, CT) and Christine Bailkowski (Aurora, ONT) each gained assists on the goal.

The game was played in a quick 1 hour and 55 minutes as no penalties were called in the entire game. McDonald finished with 22 saves and Flora Vineberg stopped 24 shots in net for the Big Red.
