Canton, NY –Junior Joe Zebrowski (Liverpool, NY) was solid in the Golden Knights’ net, but the Green and Gold’s offense failed to click as the Clarkson University Men’s Lacrosse team fell short at St. Lawrence in Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association (UCAA) action on the Saints’ North Country Field on Wednesday, losing 8-4.
In a tight defensive game, St. Lawrence went on top scoring the game's first goal with just 10 seconds left in the first quarter. The Knights came back to tie on senior Sean Pearce's (Auburn, NY) goal 59 seconds into the second, but the Saints then struck for three unanswered goals to hold a 4-1 lead at the half. St. Lawrence added two more in the third and another in the fourth to hold a 7-1 lead with 9:15 left to play. Clarkson pressured SLU down the stretch outscoring the Saints 3-1 for the remainder of the game.
Senior Patrick Ryan (Canton, NY) scored twice in the final minutes and classmate Dan Amedro (Camillus, NY) tallied the last goal with five seconds left.
Zebrowski posted a season-high 14 saves. SLU outshot the Green and Gold 33-31 and led in groundballs 34-32.
With the victory, St. Lawrence wins the UCAA regular season title and will host the four-team conference playoffs on Friday and Sunday, May 7-9.
